… so let’s start there. My name is Carter Bailey, and my girlfriend (who will introduce herself later) is Jamie. I am a software programmer living in the East Texas area. I graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler in December 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

There is one more introduction to make, and the little fella can’t make it personally. You see, on Tuesday Jamie rescued a stray kitten that happened across the street from where she works. The little guy (and I use “guy” very loosely, even the vets were undecided because BC is so young it is difficult to tell) was attempting to cross the street when a man rescued him from oncoming traffic. Phone calls were made, expectations were managed, and the decision was made to help the abandoned kitten.

Jamie took BC to a vet that day to make sure there weren’t any pressing health issues that needed immediate attention. The vets put him at 5 weeks old and gave him a clean bill of health but couldn’t determine his gender yet (poor guy… gender confusion issues so early in life!).

Jamie can’t keep him at her place, so we set up a box with comfy blankets, food, water, and an old shoe in my closet. A little frightened at first, he has become more comfortable with the room, the closet, and his new owners. He has a healthy appetite (and by “healthy,” I mean “voracious”) and high level of curiosity. He has explored the room and closet by squeezing himself into every little space possible; he especially enjoys hiding under the bed and waiting to pounce on any passersby.

As you might have guessed by now, BC stands for Basement Cat. This is an homage to the lolcat universe (check out I Can Has Cheezburger to get familiarized with lolcats). BC is a tiny, solid black kitten with dark blue-gray eyes (I’m told his eyes are unlikely to stay this color into adulthood). He is far sweeter than his name would imply, but he does resemble THE Basement Cat, so far be it from us to deny his lineage.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy the pictures, videos, and stories of BC Junior as Jamie and I raise him!

Until next time, remember to say, “Get behind me Basement Cat,”

Carter Bailey
